Our Impact

randy.jpg

Bras on the Bayou is an event that started in 2014 at the historic Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant.  Owner/Chef Jason Huguet and Acosta Foundation President Connie Acosta Lamke teamed up to host this yearly event where guests are treated to a fantastic meal cooked by Chef Huguet himself.  The highlight of the evening (well, second to the meal) happens when the male guests wear decorated bras and dance for money!  The bras are decorated by female attendees and entered into a competition.  The winner of the bras competition and donations is crowned as Queen Tata for the year.

What began as an evening that allowed underprivileged children to visit and receive a book from Santa has turned into an event that features a Glow in the Snow dance party!  Mrs. Claus showers the children with attention and the Grinch makes an appearance.  Board member Kerri and her husband, Harris (Bubba) Bellard expanded the event to provide the equipment and manpower to create the Glow in the Snow dance party and the event became a huge success.  Santa is very busy at Winter Wonderland, visiting with over 200 children!

Bunny Surprise

Acosta Foundation Board Member and Secretary/Treasurer Heidi Jeanmard began the Bunny Surpise event and the proceeeds are donated to the Miles Perret Cancer Center in honor of her father who passed away from cancer in 2018.  Parents register for the Easter Bunny to deliver candy filled eggs to their house and hide them in the yard.  The Easter Bunny even leaves a letter for each family!

The Acosta Foundation sponsors a 5k color run each year and this event was recently reinvented by board member Diane Fontenot.  Proceeds from the color run/walk benefit the American Heart Association as the charity that Diane selected because of their help and kindness they showed to her father.  Participants walk or run at their own pace and at the end of the run/walk, all participants are given powder paint packets that they throw into the air during the afterparty.
